Description

If you feel like you’re part of something bigger, it’s because you are.
At Wageningen Future Food Institute, our shared mission—to transform the future of food through science and innovation—drives everything we do.

As a growing force in sustainable biotechnology, we collaborate across disciplines to design, produce, and apply next-generation protein solutions, including through precision fermentation. Our work contributes to a healthier planet and supports the global transition to more resilient, equitable food systems.

This is more than just a job—it’s a chance to make real impact. Join us as:

Science & Industry Liaison

Our mission is to harness the power of science to address some of the most pressing challenges in food and health. We are committed to making meaningful contributions where we can have the greatest impact.

One of our core focus areas is the development of sustainable, functional proteins—such as sweet proteins and lactoferrin—produced through precision fermentation. These innovations have the potential to support global nutrition, improve food system resilience, and offer healthier alternatives to traditional ingredients. With a strong pipeline of research and collaborations, we are working toward scalable solutions that can shape the future of food and well-being.

What you will do?

At Wageningen Future Food Institute, we are on a mission to accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable and resilient food system through cutting-edge science and technology. As a Scientific Liaison Manager, you will play a key role in bridging our internal research with the outside world—translating complex scientific developments into meaningful collaborations and impact.

This is a dynamic, outward-facing position for someone who is passionate about science, skilled in communication, and eager to build partnerships that advance food innovation at scale.

In this role, you will:

  • Identify, engage, and maintain strong relationships with scientific experts, research institutions, startups, and industry partners working in precision fermentation, protein innovation, and sustainable food systems.

  • Develop and execute a collaborative engagement strategy, ensuring alignment with the institute’s research roadmap and impact goals.

  • Represent Wageningen Future Food Institute at conferences, partner meetings, and cross-sector dialogues, communicating our mission, research, and capabilities.

  • Translate scientific insights—such as those related to sweet proteins, lactoferrin, or AI-driven protein design—into opportunities for collaboration, co-development, or knowledge exchange.

  • Gather and report field insights, trends, and stakeholder feedback to guide internal R&D and partnership strategy.

What do we expect from you?

At Wageningen Future Food Institute, we value diverse perspectives and believe that meaningful innovation happens when people bring their unique strengths to a shared mission. For this role, we are looking for someone with the following profile:

  • Proven experience in industry or applied research, preferably in the fields of food innovation, biotechnology, or precision fermentation

  • An advanced degree (PhD, MSc, MD, or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline

  • A well-established professional network, ideally including academic, industry, or startup connections in food science, synthetic biology, or sustainable protein sectors

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills—you thrive in external-facing roles and collaborative environments

  • A natural curiosity, with a proactive attitude toward learning and continuous improvement

  • A science-based mindset, with the ability to think strategically and translate data into actionable insights

  • Confident, optimistic, and persistent, especially when building new partnerships or navigating complex conversations

  • Results-driven, with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through

  • Impact-focused, aligned with our mission to contribute to a more sustainable food system

  • Willingness to travel, and preferably based in or near the Wageningen region

  • Comfortable with flexible hours when needed to meet collaboration demands

  • Fluent in English; Dutch language skills are a plus but not required
